PORTLAND, Maine — The Bangor Daily News and the monthly news and arts publication The Bollard have begun a partnership aimed at strengthening community coverage in the Portland region.

The BDN will feature a new weekly column by Bollard Publisher Chris Busby and will serve as host to thebollard.com website, which will also be featured on the homepage of bangordailynews.com. The BDN will provide Web development services and will build new features for the site, such as an upcoming music player featuring local artists.

Busby’s commentary will offer a look at both Portland and statewide political events.

“The Bollard has built a much-deserved reputation for insightful reporting and commentary about Portland, so we’re very pleased to be working with them,” said Todd Benoit, BDN director of news and new media. “It’s another way for us to offer local coverage the Portland community deserves.”

Busby said he sees the partnership as a way to reach a new audience statewide. “This partnership provides an excellent opportunity to make the BDN’s readers throughout Maine, especially those in the northern part of the state, aware of The Bollard and the topics we cover in Portland,” Busby said. “Furthermore, our readers in Greater Portland will benefit from the BDN’s strong coverage of statewide issues. It’s a win-win situation.”

The Bollard, published since 2005, is distributed throughout the Greater Portland area monthly and is now live on the BDN site. Busby’s commentary will appear each Thursday online and in print on Fridays.

The Bollard is Portland, Maine’s independent voice for local news and arts coverage. Launched online on Sept. 1, 2005, The Bollard began quarterly print publication in June 2007, and monthly print publication in June 2008. Our free monthly magazine is available at over 300 locations between Bath and Biddeford, including 14 Shaw’s and Hannaford supermarkets in the greater Portland area.

The Bollard is published by Bollard Publishing LLC, a locally owned, independent business. For more info, call editor and publisher Chris Busby at 207.252.8211, or e-mail him at editor@thebollard.com.
